January 5, 2012 – Lynchburg, VA – Banker Steel Company has been awarded contracts for three major projects to be fabricated at their facilities – the Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Health Care System Replacement Medical Center (Project Legacy) in New Orleans, Louisiana, The Public Safety Answering Center II in New York, New York, and the new Whitney Museum Building in New York, New York.
For the Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Health Care System Replacement Medical Center (Project Legacy) in New Orleans, Louisiana Banker’s scope of work includes 18,000 tons of structural steel. Banker Steel will be performing this work for Clark/McCarthy joint venture.
Project Legacy is a multi-building campus covering twelve city blocks totaling 29 acres. Buildings include inpatient, Diagnostic and Treatment, Outpatient, Transisitional Living and Rehabilitation, Research, Administration, Central Energy Plant and two separate parking structures. Banker will be fabricating 5,250 Tons of structural steel for the Public Safety Answering Center II which will be located in the Bronx borough of New York City. The 550,000 sq. ft. facility will augment and provide redundancy to current 911 services, strengthening the City’s ability to maintain communication in the event of a natural disaster or large-scale emergency. Banker’s scope of work for the new 200,000 sq. ft. Whitney Museum building includes 4,000 tons of structural steel which will include unique features such as 15” diameter solid round columns, 15” and 22” diameter pipe columns, an extensive exterior stair system and a cable wall supported by a rod and clevis system. The new Whitney building will include more than 50,000 sq. ft. of indoor galleries and 13,000 sq. ft. of outdoor exhibition space on a series of rooftops facing the High Line, providing long-awaited opportunities to show more of the Whitney’s collection in tandem with temporary exhibitions.
