The Gilmerton Lift Bridge
Chesapeake, VA
Crossing the southern branch of the Elizabeth River, the Gilmerton Bridge is a vertical lift four lane bridge. The new bridge replaced the existing bascule bridge (circa 1938) with a state-of-the-art vertical lift bridge that allows for vehicular as well as maritime traffic. Banker Steel provided 6,500 tons of structural steel for this project.
